Save the date!

Dear Parents and Students of Simply Dance Academy,

We have the pleasure to announce that our Bi-Annual show will be taking place on the 27th and 28th January 2024 at the People’s Theatre in Jesmond.

Students from Pre-Primary and above will be given the opportunity to perform a dance routine, with their classmates in the dance styles they study. This means that if your dancer studies three dance styles (or takes three classes) then they’ll perform three dances.  Please note that the children in Nursery class will not participate in this event. It is too long a day for the little ones.

We have been asked by the theatre to keep the amount of people we have back stage as low as possible. This means we are going to split the academy over the two days just as we did last time:

Dancers who take class in Westmoor will perform on Saturday 27th January 2024

Dancers who take class in Earsdon will perform Sunday 28th January 2024

A very small number of children take classes in both venues. These children will perform on both days, doing their Westmoor class dance on the Saturday and their Earsdon class dance on the Sunday. Apologies for any inconvenience this may cause.

Our senior dancers: Grade 4, Grade 5 and Senior Freestyle/Lyrical Contemporary dancers participate on both days.

Students will bring home a Permission slip and health questionnaire which must be completed, signed (by an appropriate adult) and returned, before they can take part in the show. Please look out for it in September.

As you can imagine, this is always an exciting time for the students and teachers alike. The students learn so much at this point in our academic calendar.  However, we are unable to access this experience for the students without the valuable assistance of voluntary chaperones helping backstage.

Chaperones are required to be licenced by the local education authority and the academy requires authorisation from Newcastle City Council to run the show. The authorisation for the academy is not granted without the correct chaperone- to- child ratio in place weeks in advance of the performance. We would be extremely grateful if any parent or former student (over 18 years) is willing to help. Please let Gina know as soon as possible if you can chaperone and the application for a chaperone licence can be made as soon as possible.

Tickets usually go on sale roughly three months before show weekend and can be bought from The People’s Theatre box office. We will let you know the exact date as soon as we get it.

The performance will be costumed and as in previous years, we will try our utmost to keep costs down for parents.

We look forward to seeing the student’s confidence, performance skills and musicality develop over the rehearsal period and hope it will give them fond memories that last a lifetime. Save the date!

                                                  Kind Regards,

Gina and all the Simply Dance team.
